A view from my side.
What a match!! 3 goals in the first 15 minutes last night. Landon Donovan has been criticized lately for saying that he just isn’t feeling the same passion for soccer that he used to. And then he steps onto the pitch and scores a Hat Trick against the Scottish National team. A 5-1 total victory for the United States team, it is the first of several international friendlies as we prepare for the 2014 World Cup (our Mens Team having failed to qualify for the 2012 Olympics).
So, while the rest of the world plays in London, I shall be watching with a distinctly English drink in hand this summer. A Pimms Cup. The Pimm’s Cup is to Wimbledon what the Mint Julep is to the Kentucky Derby. It is a relatively simple drink and actually quite refreshing on a hot summer day. Pimm’s is only 50 proof so it goes down smooth and easy. While there are many different recipes for it, I follow a very simple one.
You need a tall glass of ice. Fill about half of the glass with Pimm’s. Then, top it off with 7Up. It will foam a bit, so pour slowly. A quick stir with a swizzle stick or teaspoon and you’re set. Feel free to add a slice of lemon or lime if you get the urge. A tasty, refreshing drink for a hot summer afternoon. But be careful, the low alcohol content can be deceiving.
July 25 will find me glued to a tube somewhere, Pimm’s in hand as our Women’s National Team takes on the French in the Summer Olympics.
